Puneites pledge to help contain global warming, better lifestyle
Residents of Royal Casa housing society in Ravet, Silver Valley Housing society in Wanowrie, Dhankawade Patil township cooperative housing society in Balajinagar and Sun Empire housing society on Sinhagad road, undertook tree plantation drives and meditation sessions.
Members of Royal Casa housing society in Ravet were in for a treat on Sunday when a session which focused on meditation and relaxation followed by a tree plantation drive was organised for the residents. A tree plantation drive was also organised at the Silver Valley Housing society in Wanowrie, where around 50 saplings of indigenous trees were planted on the society premises.

The programmes was organised to celebrate the first anniversary of Hindustan Times, Pune edition. The event was jointly organised by Hindustan Times and the Heartfulness institute.

Shyamal Nirmal, chairman of Royal Casa housing society, said, “Rising levels of stress in our daily lives increases the incidence of heart attacks and there is a need to bring about a change in our lifestyle. Meditation is the only way to help change our lifestyle for the better.”
“I thank Hindustan Times for the ‘Go Green and Save The Earth’ initiative. We witness in our everyday life how global warming is affecting each and every living being on the planet and with the help of Hindustan Times, we have initiated efforts to make our surroundings green,” said Radhika Poduval, chairman, Silver Valley Housing society, Wanowrie.

During the programme, volunteers from the Heartfulness Institute Pranoti Khandkar and Vaishnavi Pitre spoke about the importance of meditation and demonstrated relaxation techniques used by the volunteers of the institute to lead a stress-free life. The volunteers said that many such initiatives promoting meditation and relaxation are conducted by the institute free of cost.

On Saturday, a similar drive of tree plantation and meditation was conducted at Dhankawade Patil township co operative housing society in Balajinagar and Sun Empire housing society at Sinhagad road. Volunteers encouraged residents to plant trees and take a step towards making Pune green. On the occasion, around 100 saplings of indigenous trees were planted on premises of both the housing societies.
