Tehsildar promises action against polluting brick kiln in Wakad

A day after Hindustan Times published a report about Wakad residents being forced to breathe in polluted air due to smoke emitting from a nearby brick kiln, Sachin Dongare, tehsildar of Paud Mulshi taluka, said that strong action will be taken against the brick kiln.

Dongare said, “I have received a complaint against the brick kiln and I have relayed the information to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). There has been no response from their side yet. I have also decided to send a talathi to visit the place and immediately give orders to remove the brick kiln from the area.”

The residents of Wakad have been breathing in polluted air even at night, as the brick kiln keeps burning without stop to finish baking the bricks.

“We breathe the pollutants not only throughout the day, but we are compelled to inhale the particles at night as well. We are confined to our houses with our windows closed as a result of the pollution,” said Tejaswini Dhomse Sawai, chairperson of the Shonest cooperative housing society, one of the societies affected by the brick kiln.

“This brick kiln is very close to residential areas, and is a hindrance to the connecting road that we were promised,” said Dhomse.
