Two booked for blackmailing and attempting to extort Rs 30 lakh from Indrayani college principal

Two people, including an 18-year-old girl, were arrested on Thursday by Pune rural police for extortion of Dattatray Dagdu Balasaraf, principal of Indrayani College in Talegaon.
The girl, along with a 40-year-old man, had called Balasaraf to her house under the pretext of some 'important work', according to the police.
The two had beaten up Balasaraf once he reached her house and forcefully clicked illicit pictures of him with the girl.
The two then demanded Rs 30 lakh in order to not share the pictures on social media. The two had called the principal to the college premises in order to pay the remaining amount. The local crime branch of Pune rural police set a trap and arrested the two. The police also recovered Rs 6,20,000 from the first instalment from the house of the 40-year-old man in Kalyaninagar.
A case under Sections 384, 385, 386, 387, 389, 342, 323, 324, 504, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the two at Talegaon police station.
