A teacher at an orphanage has been booked by the Kondhwa police on Friday, on charges of allegedly sodomising two minor boys residing at the orphanage.
The accused has been identified as Maulana Raheem who works as a teacher at the Jamia Arabiya Darul Yatima (orphanage) at RK colony in Katraj. Raheem has been accused of sodomizing the two 10-year-old boys, who ran away from the orphanage because of the sexual abuse, police said.
The incident came to light when the victims were found at the Pune railway station by a child rights organisation, who took them to the child development commission at Shivajinagar. The boys narrated about their ordeal before the commission after which a complaint was registered by child rights activist Dr Yamini Adbe at Kondhwa police station.
Maulana Rahim abused the boys on a regular basis, said the statement given by the two boys to the police, and allegedly assaulted them if any boy raised an objection.
The police have registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act and Protection of children from sexual offences (Pocso) Act.
