The deceased has been identified as Pooja Sharma, a daughter of India Air Force staffer Nand Kishore Sharma, who is presently posted at Bhisiana.

Investigation officer Gurmeet Singh said Pooja, who hails from Bihar, had been living with her father for the past one year and had come to pursue higher studies here in 2016.

He said a non-medical student, Pooja got 68% marks in Class-12 and had unsuccessfully applied for BS course in Government Rajindera College, but she didn’t get admission due to higher merit.

“Her father told the police that since then she was preparing for competition exams,” the IO said.

She took the extreme step when she was alone in her quarter, situated inside the Air Force station

The IO said the matter came to light when her father came to the house in the evening and found her body hanging.

The police have started inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC and handed over her body to her family after postmortem.
