The victim has been identified as Ranjeet, a resident of ward no. 7. As per the police, Ranjeet was working as a waiter in the marriage party when one of the guests fired in the air while dancing. A bullet hit Ranjeet in the head.
The celebrations turned into a nightmare and people rushed an injured Ranjeet to a hospital at Sirsa. He was declared dead by doctors on Friday morning.
Rania station house officer Subhash Chandar said they have arrested one Gurmeet Singh, son of Maan Singh, a resident of Ellenabad, in the case.
A case has been registered under Sections 302 and 286 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for negligent use of a weapon on the complaint of victim's brother Manjeet Singh, son of Nota Ram, a resident of Rania.
The pistol from which the bullet was fired was, however, a licenced weapon. Notably, eight months ago a cameraman was killed at a marriage function in Ellenabad in gunfire.
