3 killed as car plunges into pond in Moga village

Police said the three were coming from Jagraon after attending a party when Dharminder, who was behind the wheel, lost control after hitting construction material dumped along the road.

Three persons were killed when the car they were travelling in plunged into a pond at Buttar village in Moga district late on Saturday night.

The deceased, Dharminder Singh, 28, Manpreet Singh, 26, and Mangaljeet Singh, 26, all friends and only sons of their families, were residents of Badhni Kalan village.

Police said the three were coming from Jagraon after attending a party when Dharminder, who was behind the wheel, lost control over the vehicle after hitting construction material dumped along the road. The car overturned and fell into the pond.

Police said two residents of Butter village — Sukhjeevan Singh and Gurpreet Singh — saw the car light in the pond and informed the villagers, who rushed the three to the Moga civil hospital. The doctors declared them brought dead.

Dharminder was running a cellphone shop while Manpreet and Mangaljeet were working in a cloth shop at Badhni Kalan village.

Dharminder and Mangaljeet were married.

Police have handed over the bodies to the family after conducting post-mortem and have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

FOUR INJURED IN SUV-CAR COLLISION

MUKTSAR: Four persons, including a woman, were injured when a Maruti Alto collided with a Mahindra Scorpio before hitting a motorcycle near Rupana village in Muktsar on Monday.

The injured have been identified as Anil Kumar, 57, Bimla Rani, 50, Shiv Kumar, 57, and motorcyclist Sagar Midda. Anil was travelling in the Alto with his sister Bimla and Shiv to attend a marriage ceremony and near Rupana when it collided head-on with a Scorpio.

Midda, an employee of the HDFC Bank was also injured. The Scorpio driver fled from the spot. Injured were rushed to a hospital.
