53-year-old woman ends life by setting herself afire
A 53-year-old woman, who was facing a case of attempting to kill her husband, allegedly committed suicide by setting herself afire at her house in Model Town on Saturday.
A 53-year-old woman, who was facing a case of attempting to kill her husband, allegedly committed suicide by setting herself afire at her house in Model Town on Saturday.
The victim has been identified as Kuldeep Kaur. Her son Varinder Singh told the police that he was at work on Saturday morning, when their maid called him and informed that his mother, who slept on the first floor of the house, was not opening the door. She also informed him about foul smell emitting from the room.
He rushed back to the house and informed the police. When they broke open the door, they were shocked to see the charred body of his mother. The Model Town police sent the body to civil hospital for autopsy.
Inspector Gurdev Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Model Town police station, said the woman was in 2012 accused of attempting to kill her husband with the help of her domestic help.
Her husband, Satpal Singh, who survived the alleged attack, started living in an old-age home in Doraha, while she was living with her sons after being bailed out in December 2013.
The SHO said no suicide note was recovered from the house.
