60 UT institutes to remain shut on Aug 6 due to UPSC prelim exam on Sunday

A total of 60 institutions, including schools and colleges will remain shut on August 6, on account of the UPSC civil services preliminary exam on August 7.

The examination requires immense preparation in setting up the centres, ensuring safety and other concerns.

All the deemed centres for the examination in city will be shut on Saturday and a notice has already been issued by the UT education department officials to declare a holiday on Saturday in schools and colleges, that were working on this day.

Director school education Rubinderjit Singh Brar said, “As of now a list of 60 government-run institutes had been finalised. The list of private schools has been sent to the advisor. Once he has gone through the file and approved the same, the schools will be formally conveyed.”

Among the 60 institutes, government schools of Sector 10, 16, 23-A, 22-A, 26, 32-C, 33-D, 35-D, 37-B and 37-D will remain shut for preparation for the exam.

The colleges include Home Science College, Government colleges for girls, Sector 11 and Government College (boys), Sector 11. Director higher education (DHE) Jitender Yadav said, “It is a normal tradition las UPSC officials will be reaching a day in advance to monitor the centres.”
