Nearly 8,300 applicants submitted their admission forms against available 3,200 seats on the last date of admission at Government College for Girls on Monday.

The college authorities had set up over eight counters for the convenience of the students so that they can easily submit forms. Students had to stand in long queues as more number of students had applied for BCom and BSc medical and non-medical courses at the college.

Growing trend for BCom course was witnessed as usual as 2,150 applications were received against 140 available seats. However, for BSc (non-medical), 1,300 forms were submitted against 160 seats. For BSc (medical) 580 students had applied for 120 available seats, while in BA 2,100 applications were received against 480 seats.

College principal Gurminder Kaur said: "Some students will not get admission in our school as they have sent incomplete admission forms through post. When we asked them to submit forms again, they said they were out of station and can't reach Ludhiana on Monday."

Kaur said 11,500 prospectus containing admission forms had been sold. They would start the admission process from July 7. However, merit list for both BSc and BCom courses will be updated on the college website - gcgldh.org - and notice board on July 5. The interviews for both the online courses would be conducted on July 7.

Ankita Khosla, a student, said: "It took me two hours to submit the admission form at the college as when I reached the college at 10 am students were standing in long queue and there was a huge rush at BSc non-medical counter."
