Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national chief Amit Shah will visit the Himachal Pradesh capital on August 16, where he will address party’s social media volunteers and office-bearers, said state BJP’s chief spokesperson Randhir Sharma here on Friday.

Shah’s visit is expected to set the tone for the 2019 general elections in the state. The BJP won all four Lok Sabha seats in the 2014 elections in Himachal. The four MPs are Ram Swaroop Sharma from Mandi, Shanta Kumar from Kangra, Anurag Thakur from Hamirpur and Virender Kashyap from Shimla.

Shah will arrive at Jubbarhatti airport at 10am and will be received by chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, state president Satpal Singh Satti, cabinet ministers and senior leaders at the party, said Sharma, adding that he will be honoured by the party workers at a public felicitation function at Hotel Peterhoff here.

“Amit Shah will address a conference of party’s social media volunteers at 1.30pm,” the spokesperson said.

“At 3pm, he will address a conference of state office-bearers, including district presidents, secretaries, block presidents and heads of village centres of Shimla parliamentary segment,” he added.

A meeting of 82 vistarkas will be held at 4.30pm and he will hold a meeting at 6.30pm with an 11-member election committee to discuss the strategy for 2019 general elections.
