The Congress on Wednesday organised a ;Sarv Dharam Prarthana Sabha’ at the Beant Singh Memorial at Chandigarh to pay tributes to the former Punjab chief minister who was assassinated on August 31, 1995.

The party also held programmes at district headquarters to mark the leader’s 21st death anniversary.

A function was also organised at the Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh, where the party leaders garlanded his bust and offered floral tributes.
Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh, former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Rajya Sabha members Partap Bajwa and Ambika Soni skipped gave the function a miss.

In his message, Amarinder recalled the sacrifice of late Beant Singh in restoring peace and order in Punjab and said he paid with his life for peace in Punjab.

{{/usCountry}}The party leaders also lashed out at the Akalis and chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, who, they said, had gone into hiding and left Punjabis to their own fate. The leaders said, it was only the Congress which had always been on the forefront when it came to saving the unity and integrity of the country.
