Vigil has been heightened at various locations across the border. Movements across the Attari border are also being watched closely as there is always a probability of some public reaction from across the border during the evening retreat ceremony, sources said.

Inspector general BSF, Punjab Frontier, Aditya Mishra, who held a round of meetings with his officials at the BSF headquarters said, "We have tightened vigil keeping in mind possible reactions."

Apart from extra vigil in the field area, a close eye will also be kept at the Retreat Ceremony area in the Attari sector, added the IG.

On a query, he added: "Inputs do come from time to time of movements along the border. We have issued the necessary orders." He added that extra vigil had been maintained in the Gurdaspur sector, since inputs of terrorist movement come from that side.

Recently, the BSF have witnessed regular increase in smuggling bids from across the border, indicating that anti-social elements on Pakistani side were looking for an excuse to increase their activities.
