The city police raided the house of a prominent businessman late Tuesday on the suspicion of gambling there but the operation turned out to be a flop as information was leaked to the man before the raid.
A senior police officer was reportedly tipped off by a secret caller that gambling was going on in a particular house in the Model Town area.
Acting on the information, station house officers (SHOs) of city and Model Town were asked to raid the said premises but before the operation, two secret agents were sent there to find out the truth.
When the police officials came to know that the house belonged to an influential person, the excitement vanished. Someone informed the owner to make things straight, so when the raiding team reached the site, nothing objectionable was found.
One of the SHOs walked down instead of hurrying down to the site in a gypsy. Mediapersons noticed some BJP leaders coming out of the house.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajjit Singh denied knowledge of such an incident even though the operation was videographed by some mediapersons.
A few days ago, the police had seized illicit liquor from the vehicle of a BJP leader but. despite a protest by the Congress, the matter was hushed up.
