"The returning officers have rejected the valid nominations of Congress candidates despite the fact that their papers were in order. The officials acted at the behest of a senior Akali leader of Khadoor Sahib area," Sikki claimed.

He said that papers of more than 90% party candidates were rejected in villages like Jhander, Sanghe, Dhunda, Goindwal Sahib, Rureasal, Khan Chapri, Bhel Johal and Vallipur etc falling under Khadoor Sahib assembly segment after scrutiny.

After a meeting with the Tarn Taran deputy commissioner, Sikki said that the officer had assured that the rejected nomination papers would be re-checked within 72 hours, and poll symbols allotted to candidates if these were found in order.

The Congress MLA said that he had sent a written complaint to the state election commission on the issue.
