Mohammad Dilshad Haji, during police interrogation, revealed that he, and his accomplice Hans Raj, used to collect cows and other animals from across the state.

They used to slaughter the cattle in their factory at Joga in Mansa district.

"Haji, along with Hansraj, started the meat business in 2000. But it was in 2006, when they started slaughtering cows and other cattle at Joga. Haji's cousins and nephews were also involved in this profitable business. They used to buy these cattle from Gurdaspur and other parts of the state," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sangrur Harcharan Singh Bhullar said.

Haji and Latif, another accused in the case, were arrested from a Muslim-dominated area near Jama Masjid in New Delhi on Wednesday. A resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Haji is presently settled in Bhawanigarh town in Sangrur, while Latif lives in Malerkotla.
