A day after two traffic cops from Zirakpur in Punjab were lauded by actress Gul Panag on microblogging website Twitter for managing traffic on submerged roads of Zirakpur during heavy rain, Punjab police presented commendation certificates to the two on Thursday.

Head constables Gurdhian Singh and Gurdev Singh, posted at Zirakpur, based on the recognition of their work by the chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Punjab DGP Suresh Arora were honoured with a Class I commendation certificate and Rs 1,000 each.

The two traffic personnel were controlling the traffic during the downpour on Wednesday and Panag tweeted photograph of Gurdhian Singh managing traffic and tagged Punjab chief minister, asking for better rain gear for the cops.

On Wednesday, Panag tweeted, “Dear @capt_amarinder Sir, hard working traffic policemen like this gentleman, would be immensely helped by good rain gear and a pat on the back. This is under the Zirakpur flyover, Patiala Road.”

Amarinder Singh had replied to Panag and thanked her for highlighting the work done by the two cops. He had tweeted that both of them will be rewarded.

Punjab police to honour traffic cops

Even as the two cops were honoured, the traffic wing of the Punjab Police announced its initiative to recognise its personnel who show exemplary zeal during the duty to save the lives of citizens and making the roads safer as well as congestion free.
