Govt allots 5-kanal land for cremating Kalianwala khuh martyrs’ remains

A day after the Gurudwara Shaheed Gunj managing committee, which spearheaded the work of exhumation of the skeletal remains of 282 martyrs of the 1857 uprising from Kalianwala Khuh in Ajnala.

A day after the Gurudwara Shaheed Gunj managing committee, which spearheaded the work of exhumation of the skeletal remains of 282 martyrs of the 1857 uprising from Kalianwala Khuh in Ajnala, charged the Defence Estate officials with going back on their promise of providing land for the cremation of martyrs’ remains on August 1, the state government has allocated five kanal land for the purpose.

The district administration, which held a meeting in this regard on Monday, allocated the land at the Fatehgarh Churian bypass in Ajnala.

Surinder Kochhar, associated with the exhumation of the remains, said that an all-faith prayer would be organised on the occasion. “The last rites wil be conducted at 12 pm on August 1 at Ajnala,” Kochhar said.
