With the work on the project of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here yet to start even after one-and-a-half years of laying of foundation stone, Union food processing industries minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday blamed the Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress government for the delay.

She said she would not even hesitate in staging a protest, if needed, to get the work started.

Talking to reporters during her visit to the site of the project here, the Bathinda MP said, “Things aren’t moving fast to start the construction of the institute ever since the Congress government was formed in the state because of its non-serious attitude.”

She said, “The previous SAD-BJP government transferred the land for the institute and did whatever was possible to initiate the work . But after the Congress government was formed in state, things are stuck, resulting in the delay in starting work on project.

She added, “Earlier, the state government delayed the no-objection certificate (NOC) for changing the course of a water channel passing through the project site. Now, the NOC has been granted but the department concerned is claiming lack of funds to change the water channel’s course, though the state finance minister belongs to this area.”

Harsimrat said a list of issues pending to be resolved by the state government to start work on project will be made on Saturday morning so that the district administration pushes to resolve these issues. “I will ensure if something is to be pursued at the level of the central government so that work on project starts as soon as possible.”
