With just four days left for Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) elections, student wings are pressing on various issues, which have been mentioned in their manifestoes. This year, a few student outfits have taken the students viewpoints into consideration as they believe their feedback is valuable for the betterment of the university.

More hostel accommodation

As part of the campaigning, Students’ Organisation of India (SOI) held a seven-day manifesto drive to highlight the issues of the students, mentioned in their manifesto. Meanwhile, Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a ‘Donate an Idea for Better PU’ to get feedback from students.Almost all major parties have included hostel accommodation as a major demand this year. Besides, a few student outfits have raised the matter of staff crunch.

NSUI all for right to speak in Senate

The members of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) have been campaigning for the right to speak in the PU Senate, smart classrooms, teacher evaluations system, 24/7 e-rickshaw facility, household insurance for students and department-level placement cells. They also plan to work towards appointing more regular faculty members on the campus.

SFS demands scholarships

‘Right to hostel’ and ‘24-hour hostel timing for girls’ are the party slogans of Students for Society (SFS) this year. Besides, they have included the demand of hygienic food, cooperative mess, regularisation of fee structure in self-financing courses and scholarships for students in their manifesto. The members have also included the demands of disabled students.

Meanwhile, ABVP and SFPU prepared a joint manifesto this year. From a reserve fund for scholarships to modern kitchens and washrooms on the campus hostels, the party claims that it wants to work for the betterment. Apart from it, the party has also demanded periodic changes in mess menus and 24/7 functional library.

ISA, HPSU press for regular seminars

The members of Indian Students’ Association (ISA) and Himachal Pradesh Students Union (HPSU) have demanded 24/7 interlinking of girls’ hostels, reduction in fee of the Neerja Bhanot hostel, and regular seminars for students of every department.

Timely declaration of results is one of the major issue being faced by students this year. In wake of the matter, SOI members have demanded that results be declared within one month of examinations. The party is further demanding a single pass for using e-rickshaws for a day, biogas plant behind boys’ hostel no 3 and rolling back of examination fee hike.
