Lahore society to help preserve Khalsa College heritage building

Noted conservation architect from Pakistan and LCS president Kamil Khan Mumtaz on Saturday took a tour of the 122-year-old Khalsa College campus.
“The architect of this historical building, Bhai Ram Singh, planned many grand structures in Lahore also,” said Khan, after college governing council finance secretary Gunbir Singh welcomed him.
Gunbir Singh, who leads Dilbir Foundation that works for environment protection and heritage conservation, said the LCS had agreed to share best conservation practices with the college and work together in Amritsar and Lahore.
Later, Khan, winner of Pakistan’s fourth-highest civilian honour, Tamgah-i-Imtiaz, made a presentation on The Lahore Project (TLP), a mission that will collaborate with The Amritsar Project (TAP) led by Dilbir Foundation.
Dr Sarbjot Behl of the School of Planning, Guru Nanak Dev University; Pradeep Sehgal, convener of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Amritsar, core g roup; senior citiz ens, youth volunteers, and representatives of World Wildlife Fund and Eco Amritsar participated in the meeting with Khan.
They decided to work for the protection of cultural and heritage buildings, environmental conservation, sustainable living, and adopting best global practices for developing a vibrant city conscious of its values and responsibilities.
The LCS team of artisans is rich in the ancient architectural wisdom.
