Man gets seven years for abetting suicide

The court of district and sessions judge, Fatehgarh Sahib, on Tuesday awarded seven year sentence to a man, namely, Sandeep Sharma, a resident of Mandi Gobindgarh, who was arrested by police in a case of abetment to suicide of his wife Pooja.

The court also imposed fine of Rs 5,000 on Sandeep and in default of payment of the fine he will have to further undergo for imprisonment for six months.

The case against Sandeep was registered on the statement of his father-in-law Narinder Kumar, a resident of Kotla Bhari village of Khanna Town in Ludhiana.

Narinder had lodged complaint with police that his 26-year-old daughter committed suicide in February this year as her in-laws harrrased her to bring dowry. Police had registered a case against Sandeep and his parents.

Pooja got married to Sandeep in 2008. The court, however, acquitted the deceased's parents-in-law.
