To collect arrears from house tax defaulters, the municipal corporation started recovery drive by beating the ‘dhol’ (drums). During the drive, the MC on Friday collected Rs 2 lakh from the defaulters, who had not paid house tax for past few years.
The drive was conducted in the areas, including Janak Puri, Transport Nagar, Hargobind Pura, Focal Point, Tajpur Road and 33 Feet Road, which fall under MC’s Zone-B.
The MC officials claimed that the drive would continue in the other areas too, so that recovery could be ensured. MC Zone-B commissioner Kamlesh Bansal said they would conduct recovery drive by beating the ‘dhol’ for collecting arrears of water supply and sewerage charges.
He appealed to the defaulters to pay the recovery amount at the earliest otherwise complaints would also be registered with the police in this regard.
Earlier, MC commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agarwal had directed the zonal commissioners to recover Rs 1 crore outstanding recovery from each zone. Following which, the officials are making efforts to collect the amount from defaulters.
With the collection of arrears, the MC is expecting to improve its financial position. According to the sources, around Rs 200 crore arrears are to be collected from defaulters in all zones.
