Men on bike allegedly throw chemical on rape victim in Chandigarh: Police

The 18-year-old woman was on her way to attend a court hearing in connection with a rape case.

An alleged rape victim, on her way to a court hearing on Monday, was attacked with an acid-like chemical by two unidentified motorcycle borne youth, police said.

The 18-year-old woman, who was on foot at time of the incident, was attacked by two persons who escaped, they said.

The woman was on her way to attend a court hearing in connection with the rape case.

The woman had alleged she was raped by a youth from Jammu in a hotel here in 2017, police said.

She was rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16 for treatment, police said, adding, the matter was being investigated and the woman’s statement being recorded.

The incident took place in an area near the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and Panjab University.

Police said the woman did not sustain any serious injury but was under treatment after she complained of a burning sensation in her eyes and face.
