Miffed Mittal clashes with media
Miffed over the questions posed by media for poor health services in Rajpura, health and family welfare minister Madan Mohan Mittal on Wednesday clashed with reporters here during a press conference.
Even his security personnel manhandled mediapersons and prevented photojournalists from taking pictures. Following this, the mediapersons boycotted the press conference and blocked the Chandigarh road to lodge their protest against the highhandedness of the minister and his staff.
Mittal was here to inaugurate a medical camp at the civil hospital.
As the press conference began, mediapersons raised some pointed queries on the poor infrastructure in hospital and doctor-pharmaceutical companies nexus. Mittal refused to comment. However, when the mediapersons pressed for an answer to the nexus issue, a visibly perturbed Mittal started criticising the media. His gunmen manhandled the lensmen to prevent them from taking pictures.
Agitated over the minister's reaction, the mediapersons later blocked the Chandigarh-Patiala Road and staged a massive protest against the minister.
Earlier, inaugurating the camp, Mittal said that the government was committed to providing world-class health facilities. He said the government had started the process of campus recruitments to end shortage of doctors in dispensaries, apart from hiring specialised doctors.
