Missing UK hotelier: Probe trail leads cops to Anandpur Sahib
Nearly 12 days after groping in the dark, the police claimed to have got a vital lead in the missing UK hotelier case.
Police sources said the driver of Baldev Singh Deol, who has been booked on the charges of kidnapping hotelier Ranjit Singh Power, have told cops that they took the NRI to Anandpur Sahib after receiving him from the Amritsar airport on May 8.
The driver said first they went to Goindwal Sahib from where they reached Shahkot and finally halted at Anandpur Sahib.
"Based on information provided to us by Deol's driver, two police teams have been rushed to Anandpur Sahib," said deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Rajinder Singh. "We are collecting local inputs and all efforts are being made to trace the missing NRI," he said. A team has also been sent to Khanori in the neighbouring Sangrur district, said the officer. "We have also alerted police officers in other district," he said.
The police have been planning to seek the assistance of Interpol to locate Deol.
Senior Congress leader and former MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira had sought the intervention of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in the case. "The NRI community is deeply concerned over Power's abduction," he said.
On May 18, Amrik Power had complained to police that his brother Ranjit had gone to Punjab for a business deal with Deol. Ranjit was to return to Wolverhampton on May 14, but didn't turn up. Deol had returned to Wolverhampton on May 15.
