How he performed
Elected as an independent who rebelled from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), he and brother Simarjeet are now with Navjot Singh Sidhu’s forum. A first-time MLA from a new segment, he got completed a water treatment project which was hanging in the balance for a long time. He also got completed sewerage project in Giaspura, Lohara and Daba areas. He got constructed major roads too. Most importantly, he established a ‘Suvidha Centre’ at his own premises for residents where people can apply for work related to the revenue department, food and civil supplied and local bodies. However, waterlogging, water contamination and sewage overflow have not been resolved. Many people fall ill every year here due to water-borne diseases.

Nothing has been done in the area in the name of development. There is no sewerage, and roads are dilapidated. He attends functions, but has failed to deliver what he promised,Satpal Rajput, 40, property dealer said.
In the rainy season, this area turns into pond! All projects initiated by him are hanging fire. He is more active in politicking than concentrating on development of the area, Sher Singh, 40, factory owner said.

How he performed
After being denied ticket by Shiromani Akali Dal, he, like his brother (Balwinder Singh Bains), fought as an independent and won. As a first-time MLA, he has been spearheading a campaign against the SAD-BJP government on various issues. He got completed Balloke water treatment project that was lying incomplete for long. Known as a firebrand leader, he got blacklisted the contractors responsible for delaying the project. He brought a ‘Suvidha Centre’ to his constituency. Besides, the segment also has an employment exchange. He even uses his personal contatcs to provide job to youths in the private sector. He also plays the role of a mediator to amicably resolve conflicts among his constituents. However, people in the segment suffer a lot due to waterlogging, faulty sewerage and poor roads.

The MLA has failed to deliver what he had promised. He claimed that he will set an example for other MLAs, but he failed to provide basic facilities to most of the areas, Harpreet Sawaddi, 26, factory owner said.
He carried out more development work in the area when he was a councillor. After he became MLA, he failed to serve the area. Most of the projects he has started remain incomplete, Amardeep Singh Gogi, 45, trader said.
