Despite assurance of the police commissioner, Pramod Ban, no policeman was stationed at the parking to check fleecing of visitors from Monday.

Following numerous complaints of overcharging, deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal had said they would station a cop from Monday onwards to curb any wrong practices going on at the multi-level parking lot. He had spoken to the police commissioner and got his nod.

On Monday, a Hindustan Times team visited the parking lot twice, but found no policeman stationed there, even as the parking staff was found charging Rs 20 against the prescribed fee of Rs 12 for two-wheelers and Rs 40 against the prescribed fee of Rs 23 for four-wheelers.

Manjeet Singh, a resident, said, “I was charged Rs 20 for parking my scooter. I did not know that the fee was Rs 12. The district administration should stop such fleecing by conducting surprise checks.”

Sukhdev Singh, a visitor said, “When I questioned the parking staff as to why they were overcharging, they claimed the parking fee had increased last week.”

HT has highlighted the matter several times, but the visitors are yet to get relief.

When contacted, DC Rajat Agarwal said, “Reminder was sent to the commissioner of police to station a cop. We will ensure that nobody is overcharged for parking."
