The much talked about speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Teacher’s Day could not reach thousands of students studying in the madrasas of Malerkotla in the district.

The management in these madrasas did not arrange television or radio sets for students to listen to the PM’s speech. The caretakers at the madrasas said there was no official communication from the district authorities regarding the matter and it was also a weekly holiday in the institutions.

“We did not have any information regarding the Prime Minister’s address to students. Also, Jumma is a holiday,” said Hakim Mohammad, caretaker of the Jamiya Sayyad Abdul Hasan Ali Nadwai Madrasa at Gausipura (Malerkotla).

Similarly, Inayat Ali, a teacher at Arbia Hifzul Kuran Madrasa (senior secondary) on Khanna road (Malerkotla) said, “I do not know about any such speech but if we had information and had the PM decided to deliver his speech on a working day besides Jumma, we would have made arrangements for our students.”
