The building, which is being now used by the assistant town planners (ATPs) and building inspectors and where public comes for the regularisation of their plots and buildings or to get sanctioned building plans and drawings, nowhere looks like a public office but gives a look of a century-old storeroom.

The building has 20 rooms of which only five are in an average to good condition and have been acquired by ATPs. All other rooms are lying vacant and one room is being used to keep stationery of the municipal corporation.

The building where more than 500 people visit daily doesn’t have a bathroom and arrangement for water. The staff have to go to new building to relieve themselves.

“We have to hire sweepers on our own every week. Many a time, we have taken up this issue with our seniors but to no avail,” said an ATP.

Ram Pal, a junior engineer in the building and roads department of the civic body, said, “As the plan to demolish the building has been shelved, we will now send a proposal for its renovation,” he said. Kulvinder Singh, a superintending engineer, said, “The old MC building will be renovated as soon as we get funds.”
