Patil suggests technology to overcome teachers' shortage
UT administrator Shivraj V Patil on Monday batted for technology as a solution to overcome the shortage of teaching staff at government schools in the city.
UT administrator Shivraj V Patil on Monday batted for technology as a solution to overcome the shortage of teaching staff at government schools in the city.

“Use technology to counter the problem of shortage of teaching staff,” said Patil, who is also the governor of Punjab, after inaugurating a newly constructed government high school in Sector 54.
On how technology can be put to use, Patil said schools should play videos of lectures delivered by eminent professors. “This will help save time, money and solve the problems of shortage of teaching staff up to some extent,” he said.
Patil said that improvement in the quality of education was impossible if technology is not used. Justifying the introduction of double shifts in 40 city schools, he said, “Population of our country is about 125 crore. The Right to Education (RTE) Act says that we have to provide education to one and all. We need to change the policy of one classroom for 40 students. For this, we have to follow the system of bigger classrooms, which are equipped with latest technology.”
He also instructed the UT department of architecture to design schools keeping in mind the concept of smart classrooms. Earlier, Patil visited classrooms and computer labs of government schools in sectors 53 and 54 and also tasted mid-day meal prepared for students.
UT finance secretary VK Singh, meanwhile, said there were three smart schools in the city. “Eight more would be operational soon,” he said. He said that though the UT education department had recently recruited 650 teachers, there still was a shortage. “We have sent a proposal to the Centre, requesting it to sanction more posts to meet the requirement,” he said.
Don't limit admissions to city students
UT administrator Shivraj V Patil said government schools in the city should not limit admission in government schools to students of Chandigrah only. “If seats are available, students of SAS Nagar and Panchkula should also be considered,” he said.
