
Punjab to recruit 14,000 teachers in 2 months: Cheema
Punjab education minister Daljeet Singh Cheema on Tuesday said the state would recruit 14,000 teachers in two months.
“Punjab is now among the leading states in education and the government in its endeavour to provide quality education has already recruited 70,000 teachers,” Cheema said at a Republic Day function at Government College, Phase 6, here. He said under the Mai Bhago scheme, free bicycles worth ` 114 crore had been distributed to more than 4 lakh girls studying in Class 9 to 12.
Cheema said SAS Nagar is being developed as an information technology (IT) hub and they are working on the Medicity project to provide quality healthcare services.
“We should be prepared to defeat any kind of internal or external threats,” Cheema said while paying homage to the defence personnel and cops who fought against the terrorist attack in Pathankot and Dinanagar. He announced ` 5 lakh prize to students who presented the cultural programme.
Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra and Canadian MP Gurbant Singh were also present on the occasion.
Chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) NK Sharma unfurled the national flag at Dera Bassi.
