On Tuesday, returning officer Sharvan Sehgal reportedly rejected the nominations of two candidates, advocates Aman Rani and Harjot Singh, for the post of president of District Bar Association, citing inexperience as the reason.

Thereafter, Harjot allegedly entered Sehgal’s office and slapped him. The incident in the district court complex resulted in much hue and cry, and therefore, a general house meeting was called.

However, the meeting only witnessed bedlam. With lawyers not willing to listen to each other, the meeting was adjourned and called again at 3 pm. Media was not allowed inside the meeting venue.

The meeting again saw a group of lawyers entering into heated arguments with another group, even as senior lawyers tried to pacify them.

Later, it was decided that as the powers were vested with the returning officer, the cancellation of the nominations was not wrong. The District Bar Association would go to election on April 24.
