A two-year-old boy was killed when his father jumped into the Bhakra canal while holding him. They were taken to the Rajindra Medical College, where the child was declared brought dead.

Passiana SHO Jaswinder Singh Tiwana said that the man, identified as Bhagwangarh resident Bikkar Singh, had attempted to commit suicide after a quarrel with his wife Mamta on Sunday.

Singh had gone to meet Mamta at her parents' house where she had been staying due to strained relations with him, and had threatened to commit suicide when she refused to reconcile. When she returned from the bathroom, Mamta noticed that Singh had fled with her son.
