Alleging that the accident took place due to the level crossing gatekeeper’s negligence, people sat on a dharna, demanding action against him. The blockade led to halting of trains running on the Jalandhar-Amritsar route.

While Akal Takht Express was stopped at the Jalandhar railway station at 5:30pm, Dadar Express was halted at the Kartarpur station and Janseva Express at Dhilwan station. Other trains running late included Chhattisgarh Express, Shatabdi Express and Shan-e-Punjab.

The dharna was finally lifted at 6:30 pm after a compromise was reached between the protesters and railway officials.
