Truck’s brakes fail, rams into 9 cars at red light; no one hurt

Twelve people in nine cars and other passersby had a miraculous escape after a truck — its brakes had failed — carrying a petrol tanker rammed into vehicles waiting at a red signal on the junction of Sectors 44/45-49/50 on Tuesday evening.

Twelve people in nine cars and other passersby had a miraculous escape after a truck — its brakes had failed — carrying a petrol tanker rammed into vehicles waiting at a red signal on the junction of Sectors 44/45-49/50 on Tuesday evening.

The police said six cars were damaged and three received minor dents. Three people suffered minor injuries and were taken to GMSH, Sector 16, for first-aid and treatment.

Sector 49 SHO inspector Ranjodh Singh the truck was coming from the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT), Sector 43, and hit the stationary cars from the rear. “The impact of the collision was so severe that cars were dragged for around 20 metre. Six of the nine cars were completely damaged,” a witness said.

The SHO said truck driver, Ajay Sharma (30), a resident of Panchkula, had been arrested and the vehicle had been impounded.
