Police said during a naka on the road dividing Sectors 8 and 9, a Toyota Innova was stopped in which four youths were travelling. During search, a pistol was recovered from their possession and vehicle’s registration plate (HR64-3738) was found to be fake.

The accused were identified as Satnam Singh (40) of Ferozepur and Parambir Singh (26) of Ludhiana. Their two accomplices, Balwinder alias judge and Tinku, managed to flee from the spot.

Police said the accused claimed that they were in the city because a student leader, which they identified as Shaj Gill, had called them to offer ‘support’ in the Panjab University student council elections.

Police are trying to find out to which party Gill belongs.

The accused have, meanwhile, been booked under Section 473 (possessing counterfeit seal) of the IPC and under the Arms Act by the Sector 3 police.
