At 11am, Sonia and Priyanka drove to the site where the cottage is coming up. Both spent more than an hour there, having a discussion with leading architect Sunita Kohli and her associate. The duo returned for lunch at Hotel Wildflower Hall.

At about 4pm, Priyanka drove back to the site, while Sonia chose to spend time in the catchment area of the Shimla reserve forest sanctuary, situated along National Highway 22. Accompanied by forest officials, she spent nearly two hours there before returning to the hotel.

A forest official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Sonia, along with Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi, had visited Shimla’s catchment area when Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister. “At that time, they had gone around the area on horseback,” he said.

The Congress president also had tea at the forest rest house in the catchment area. Sonia and Priyanka will return to New Delhi on Tuesday.
