Will move court if Harmanpreet retained as DSP: Bir Devinder

He said the indecent haste shown by Capt Amarinder Singh and DGP Suresh Arora in appointing her as a DSP, without verifying her academic qualification, was not only problematic, but repulsive and regrettable.

Claiming that it was sickening that some top political leaders and DGP Suresh Arora were recommending the case of Indian women cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur for retention as a DSP in the Punjab police, former deputy speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Bir Devinder Singh, has demanded that the state government should prosecute her, instead.

“Kaur has committed forgery with the state by submitting a fake graduation degree. No doubt she is an ace cricketer, but the crime she has committed in misleading the police department by furnishing a fake degree cannot be condoned by any parameter of law,” Bir Devinder added.

“If she begins her career by cheating the same department in which she is going to serve, how could she become a role model for others to follow?,” he said, adding that as per the law of the land, she should have been arrested by now.

He added that if she was retained as DSP, he would move court. “It is unethical, and highly inappropriate if not entirely illegal, to retain her in the police department even for a day. If the government continues having her as a DSP, I will challenge the same in a court, making all senior police officers, who put their signatures on the file for her retention in the police, as party,” he claimed.

“Though I feel sorry for her but there should not be any compromise, if her honesty and integrity is found compromised,” he added.
