Woman killed in road mishap

A 42-year-old-woman was killed and her husband was seriously injured when a private bus collided with the motorcycle they were travelling on, at Canal Bridge near Adampur village on Sunday.

A 42-year-old-woman was killed and her husband was seriously injured when a private bus collided with the motorcycle they were travelling on, at Canal Bridge near Adampur village on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Kanta Rani. Her husband Sanjeev Kumar (45) was hospitalised at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh. He is critical, said the police. The couple lived in Bassi Pathana.

Inderjeet Kumar, brother-in-law of the deceased, in his complaint to the police said his brother and sister-in-law were headed to Ludhiana to meet relatives.

While crossing the Canal Bridge, a recklessly-driven bus hit their bike, said Kumar, a Bassi-Pathana resident.

The injured were rushed to the Fatehgarh Sahib civil hospital where Kanta Rani died. Sanjeev was referred to the Chandigarh hospital.

A case was registered under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified bus driver.
