Women attacked, robbed of earrings in Jalandhar

Two unidentified persons barged into a house in local Shakti Nagar on Monday evening and robbed an elderly woman and her daughter-in-law of their earrings after critically injuring them.

Two unidentified persons barged into a house in local Shakti Nagar on Monday evening and robbed an elderly woman and her daughter-in-law of their earrings after critically injuring them.

The victims have been identified as Madhu Seth (52) and her mother-in-law Raj Rani Seth (80) and were admitted to a private hospital where their conditions were stated to be critical.

Reports said the house owner, Rakesh Seth (59), a retired bank manager, went to his friend at 5 pm after which his wife Madhu and mother were at home.

Soon after Rakesh had left, two men entered his house and attacked the two women with sharp-edged weapons.

The victims also sustained injuries on their ears.

After injuring them, the accused snatched their gold earrings fled. Eyewitnesses said the attackers came on a bike and had their faces covered.

The incident occurred at house number 30 of the locality and there is a permanent police naka a few mteres away.

Jagdish Raj, municipal councillor, said the police failed to ensure security of residents and criminals had belied all claims of the commissionerate police.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-I) Naresh Kumar Dogra claimed that the victims sustained no injuries and they had got electric shocks.

Dr Balraj Gupta, managing director, Rattan Hospital, said both Raj Rani and Mahdu had sustained multiple injuries, including fractures on face, skull and serious injuries on ears.

Their condition was still serious and they were under observation, he added.
