Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh cops discuss Maoists’ infiltrations across border

The porous border provide easy escape routes to Maoists ultras, who take shelter in other states every time an offensive is launched against them.

Senior police officers from Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh on Sunday discussed measures to control infiltration of Maoists across state borders during an inter-state border coordination meet at Netarhat town in Latehar district.

The porous border and undulating terrain in Latehar and Garhwa districts of Jharkhand and Sarguja and Balrampur districts of Chhattisgarh provide easy escape routes to Maoists ultras, who take shelter in other states every time an offensive is launched against them.

Chhattisgarh IG Sarguja Himanshu Gupta, Latehar SP Anoop Birtharay, Garhwa SP Alok Priyadarshi and Balrampur SP Sadanand Kumar were present in the meeting.

According to highly reliable sources, the senior police officers also chalked out a strategy to drive out dreaded Maoist leader Dev Kumar Singh also known as Arbindji, who carries a cash reward of `1 crore on his head. Arbindji has been holed up in a hilly region along the borders for a long time.

Birtharay confirmed that the meeting took place but refused to divulge more details about the deliberations, citing security regions.
