Bhaagmathie is a horror thriller starring Anushka Shetty in the lead role.

Anushka Shetty’s Bhaagmathie has emerged as biggest hit in the actress’s career. Having already grossed over Rs 50 crore worldwide, the film managed to strike gold in USA where it has become first heroine-centric film from south Indian to gross over $1 million (Rs 64,125,000 approx). It’s also the first Anushka-starrer (in a leading role) to achieve this feat. Her Rudhramadevi, which also featured Rana Daggubati and Allu Arjun, collected around $970k (Rs 62,201,250 approx) in the US.

Trade pundits believe Bhaagmathie, thanks to its strong content, might end up as the biggest grossing film in Anushka’s career. Directed by G Ashok, Bhaagmathie is a horror-thriller that takes the genre for granted, only to deceive the audiences with an unpredictable twist. The film also stars Jayaram, Unni Mukundan, Asha Sharrath and Murali Sharma. Originally planned to be shot in 2012, the project was put on hold for four years since Anushka was busy with other commitments.

Anushka reportedly lost 18 kgs for the role.

The film also released in Tamil and managed to do decent business in Tamil Nadu. To play her role in Bhaagmathie, Anushka reportedly shed 18 kg. On the career front, she has Gautham Vasudev Menon’s multi-starrer Ondraga, which also stars four leading southern stars. She’s said to commence work on this project from August. She’s also said to be in talks for Ajith’s Viswasam.
