He’s had a string of successes, the latest being Housefull 2. And now Riteish Deshmukh is venturing into a new territory — Marathi films. To kick off by the end of this year, a yet-untitled project will see him acting — for the first time — in his native language. It will also mark Riteish’s debut as a producer with his firm, Mumbai Film Company. But the Maharashtrian boy admits that he is “nervous” about it.
“Yes, I am nervous about acting in a language other than Hindi. I am used to speaking Marathi every day, but acting in the language is something that’s making me a little anxious. But I am sure the feeling will go away in the coming months,” he says.
The newly married actor who has had a string of hits like Housefull (2010), FALTU (2011), Double Dhamaal (2011) and this year, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya (TNLHG) and Housefull 2, feels it’s too early to comment on the details of the film. “There are two subjects: one is in a complete commercial zone while the other is a sensitive subject. So whichever works out well will go on floors first,” says Riteish, adding that the idea and story have already been finalised.
At the moment, Riteish is revelling in the success of Housefull 2. “It feels great. Probably, I have been making choices — over the past couple of years — that have gone right. It’s similar to a situation when you make certain choices that go wrong,” says Riteish, who’s half way through the shooting of Kya Superkool Hai Hum.

“Now I am looking forward to different kinds of films, especially since people have been offering me varied roles post TNLHG. Comedy will continue happening, but apart from those films, I will try and mix it up with genres like thrillers or a slice-of-life romantic comedy,” he says.
Lastly, ask Riteish about turning producer and he says: “It’s about time, since I have gained enough experience to understand how things function in a film set-up. Plus, I have made enough friends to help and guide me through the first production. Also, I wanted to do a Marathi film since, after all, I am a Maharashtrian guy. With my first film, I am trying to do something that hasn’t happened in the Marathi film world before.”
