Mahesh Babu’s Spyder released worldwide on September 27.

Mahesh Babu’s spy thriller Spyder is off to a terrific start at the box-office worldwide. According to the makers, the film has grossed a whopping Rs 51 crore from its first day worldwide and is set for a huge opening weekend as it happens to be a festival release. It is believed that this is biggest opening in Mahesh’s 18-year-long career and the team is thrilled with the response, despite mixed reviews from critics. However, having been made on a budget of Rs 125 crore, let’s say the film is not even close to the halfway mark yet to even break even.

On Thursday, the film received the much needed praise from superstar Rajinikanth, who watched the film in a special screened and shared some encouraging words. In a note, he said, “The film is very good; has a very good message along with superb action. AR Murugadoss has handled the subject very well. Mahesh Babu gave an extraordinary performance. I congratulate entire team for delivering such a superb film.” In the film, released worldwide on Wednesday, Mahesh plays an Intelligence Bureau officer.

The film also stars Rakul Preet Singh, SJ Suryah and Bharath. Apparently, Suryah plays a serial killer and it is Mahesh’s job to save the world from him. At the recent press meet in Chennai, Suryah had said that Murugadoss has used a high level concept in the first half of the film and it has been treated in a way that even a common man can understand. He also said the second half of Spyder has a segment that will appeal to women.
