Ninety per cent of women want a long-term relationship with a man who has earned his money, a research into what women look for in a potential husband has revealed.

Only 5 per cent were on the hunt for a guy with inherited wealth, the research by Peter Jonason of the University of Western Sydney found.

“The idea of gold-diggers is an unfortunate oversimplification of what women want,” News.com.au quoted Dr Jonason as saying.

“Women want a good man who has his head together and one way of showing that is by earning money,” he stated.

Jonason looked into the motive behind people’s preferences for “mates with resources”.

He said women lowered their standards in short-term relationships because “They’re willing to because they''re not concerned about him sticking around.”
