Iraq beat Iran to win AFC under-16 title

MARGAO: Iraq beat Iran 4-3 via penalty shootout to win their maiden Asian Football Confederation U-16 Championships title at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.

MARGAO: Iraq beat Iran 4-3 via penalty shootout to win their maiden Asian Football Confederation U-16 Championships title at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.

The two sides could not produce any goal at the end of the 90-minute regulation time. No extra time was awarded and penalty shootout was ordered.

Iraq’s Ahmed Saartip Omar, Muntadher Abdulsada, Ali Ahmed Radha and Mohammed Dawood were successful in the penalty shootout while Mohammed Sahrifi, Vahid Namdari and Amirhossein Esmaeilzadeh could score for Iran.

‘FORGIVEN’ ETO’O BACK FOR ANTALYASPOR

ISTANBUL: Former Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o was recalled by Turkish side Antalyaspor on Sunday after being dropped for allegedly accusing the club leadership of racism on social media.

Club chairman Ali Safak Ozturk said Eto’o had been forgiven after expressing regret for the remarks.
