BRUSSELS: Double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson on Thursday said she was not the female version of Jamaican teammate Usain Bolt, who sealed a treble-treble of Olympic golds in last month’s Rio Games.

Thompson blasted to victories in both the 100 and 200 metres in the Brazilian city to mirror Bolt’s feat and is unbeaten this season, having got the better of Dutch rival Dafne Schippers.
“Usain is unique, I guess that I am just the next Elaine Thompson,” she said ahead of Friday’s Diamond League meet in Brussels when she will be up against Schippers once again.
BONDARENKO TO UNDERGO OPERATION
Ukrainian high jumper Bohdan Bondarenko will undergo a sinus operation at the end of the season after enduring an Olympic campaign in constant pain.
The 2013 world champion and 2015 silver medallist, who won bronze at the Rio Olympics, explained that he’d had “a sinus problem since before Rio. I’ve been on antibiotics, but I’m still in pain. I’m not great.”
Bondarenko will compete in Friday’s Diamond League meet, the final one of the season, with $40,000 (35,460 euros) up for grabs for the winner of his discipline.
GOLOVKIN GEARS UP FOR HIS ‘BIGGEST FIGHT’
LONDON: Kazakh bruiser Gennady Golovkin on Thursday said he regards Saturday’s world middleweight title defence in London against home favourite Kell Brook as the biggest fight of his career.
Golovkin is regarded as one of the world’s best pound-for-pound fighters after knocking out his last 22 opponents and defends two of his three middleweight titles against Brook at the O2 Arena.
CHOPRA HOPEFUL OF PLAYING FOR INDIA
NEW DELHI: Former Newcastle and Sunderland striker Michael Chopra says he has not given up on his ambition to represent India in international football.
Chopra said in the past he is willing to surrender his British passport to represent India.
The striker has represented England at the junior level but according to Fifa rules, he is eligible to represent India since his grandparents moved to England from Jalandhar in the 1950s.
PIETERS OUT OF DUTCH OPEN AFTER BEE STING
LONDON:Ryder Cup wildcard Thomas Pieters pulled out of the Dutch Open on Thursday after suffering an allergic reaction to a bee sting.
Pieters, 24, was stung during a challenge round earlier in the week. He will make his Ryder Cup debut at the end of the month.
