Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt on Wednesday said he would lead Australia in its Davis Cup tie with Serbia in Belgrade in September.
Hewitt said Australia would be underdogs in the World Group playoff, where he is likely to face Novak Djokovic, who beat him in the fourth round at Wimbledon this year.
"If we can win this tie it will be a remarkable win, it really would," said Hewitt.
"It's a great challenge, but this is the kind of thing I look forward to."
"This is what Davis Cup is about, and this is what you live for, causing upsets like this. I'd like nothing more than to knock them out and give ourselves another chance next year."
A loss would see 28-time Davis Cup champions Australia relegated to the Asia-Oceania zonal competition next year.
World number 21 Hewitt is likely to be joined by either world number 92 Chris Guccione or Peter Luczak (97) in the singles, while he will probably partner Paul Hanley in the doubles.
Davis Cup captain John Fitzgerald said two-time Grand Slam winner Hewitt would make an inspirational team leader.
"Lleyton has always stepped up to play Davis Cup, and in the past nine years has only missed two ties," he said.
"He's a great leader for our team and an inspiration for potential team members.
