I-League leaders Salgaocar continued their winning streak after scoring an emphatic 3-0 win over HAL in their 17th round I-league match played here at Nehru Stadium. Salgaocar now have 40 points from 17 matches while second-placed Churchill Brothers have 33 from the same number of matches.
After a goalless first half, Yusif Yakubu opened the scoring for the home side, while Gilbert Oliveira doubled the lead before substitute Ekene Ikenwa sealed the win.
Salgaocar dictated terms with substitute Tomba Singh spearheading the attack from the middle as Salgaocar shot into the lead in the 61st minute.
Oliveira laid a pass to Yusif Yakubu from the right flank and the Ghanaian found the far post.
Salgaocar then came with a swift counter move and increased the lead nine minutes later.
Ryuji Sueoka relayed the ball to Fernandes who send a deep goalmouth cross that beat the entire rival defence and HAL's custodian to the unmarked Oliveira who slotted it home.
Ikenwa scored the third in the 90th minute from with a close ranger.
